Student Launch Program

As part of New Mexico Space Grant’s Student Launch Program, students and teachers watched as their experiments were launched on April 22, 2017 at the FLARE Alamogordo Launch Site in Alamogordo, NM. Fellowship of Las Cruces Area Rocketry Enthusiasts (FLARE) launched a 6″ diameter rocket from the SMRA launch site developed by the American Legion Post #34 and Post members. The Park is west of Alamogordo in sparse desert scrub. The rocket reached a height of approximately 7,000 feet. The payload experiments launched were designed and built by Sierra Middle School, Roswell, NM. The payload canisters were 3-D printed by Dona Ana Community College. The Student Launch Program was created to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs for students in New Mexico.
